On Sunday 4th of March
three students, (and their teachers and parents) from Trinity College Secondary, attended a Tasmanian Science Talent Search award afternoon at UTAS in Launceston.
All three students presented work in the Creative Writing Section.
Two students worked on an investigation following the Japanese tsunami and the nuclear waste disaster, and wrote a poem titled “To whom it may concern”. The poem listed many scientifically named bacteria which could be used to break down radioactive waste. It received a Merit Award.
Another wrote a creative poem on Carbon Nanotubes, an elevator to the moon, titled “Carbon is…” and received a 1st Prize in the Intermediate section.
Well done to the students for their excellent work!
Poatina Village helped out at the recent Longford Harvest festival.
Even though there was a bit of rain, Poatina had a great day contributing. The Fusion team pulled off a great day of activities for those that came. Crafts, Woodwork, face painting, games, and of course, Thomas train rides.
Heart fm ran a live broadcast from the event, which all ran very smoothly, a big thanks to the volunteer team that did a great job!
Trinity College had a significant part in the day also, with a team of students performing live on center stage a number of times with original pieces, instrumental items and songs!
On Saturday 3rd of March, the Poatina youth enjoyed celebrating a 16th birthday at a formal dance night!.
Young men wore suits, the ladies, wore some beautiful outfits. The local ‘Chalet Barista’ was the DJ for the evening, pumping out good old dance songs that got people up and dancing for many hours!. From all accounts it was a fun night, and a great way to celebrate a special birthday lady.
